The Legacy Continues…

Nine years ago today you slipped away. From Labor to reward one day after your 95th birthday. I held your hand in those last moments. You lived a full life, beyond what is promised to us. For the first few years after your passing I was so grieved missing you immensely. My grief has changed over the years. I still miss you so very much, but I’m finding what I miss more is the conversations we had and the ones we failed to articulate. So much of who I am is who you were. I promise before I leave this earth I will honor your legacy by having those hard conversations. Mending relationships through purposeful and valuable communication. Family is everything and nothing at the same time. It’s nothing if we don’t know our history. It’s nothing if we don’t know our true identity. It’s nothing if we fail to face why we are the way we are. Legacy is more than money and estates. Legacy is living your truth and leaving no questions unanswered. Legacy is preparing those you leave behind to live their lives in the freedom of who they were created to be.

I miss you Annie Ruth Lewis. On this day as I celebrate when Jesus welcomed you home, I am grateful for the deposits you made in me.
